Hospice Music

Portland & The Willamette Valley

Working with Leigh

What to Expect

Leigh is a professional harpist in Portland, OR, with over 30 years of experience. One of her hospice music therapy goals is using harp music to provide a good distraction for patients in comfort care and for family members. She has noticed that harp music doesn’t just help the patient but also the family.

She seeks to be a calming presence in a time full of uncertainty. Hospice isn’t necessarily planned, so she’s willing to be flexible around your time and needs. That means that she can be booked as quickly as needed, based on availability.

Leigh can help bring people peace in their last or most stressful moments, which is why she got involved in palliative care (for serious illnesses). Helping relax the minds of those facing difficult situations in life and giving them comfort for even a short period is important, and Leigh enjoys helping with this process.

Leigh provides harp music for hospice, as well as patients in:

  • Cancer treatment
  • Illness recovery
  • Respite care
  • Therapy
  • Rehab

When you select her to play for your family member or for your hospice care center, she will provide a collection of soothing, peaceful songs that help patients relish in memories and good feelings. Leigh selects songs for the occasion, and if you have any special requests for music that might strike a chord with the patient, she will do her best to accommodate them.  She will work with the family or the hospice care center on the appropriate music within the allotted time. If the patient loves a specific genre or song, Leigh can provide music that fits their requests.

Leigh will perform where needed, from a patient’s home to an assisted living facility, hospice facility, etc. If the music is needed outdoors, she will need a dry, flat surface to play on but can set up where needed. She’s happy to play in the background while you are talking or to perform a solo. The performance typically lasts just under an hour, though she will play as long as requested.

Leigh Brown is a harpist in Portland Oregon and enjoys drumming as well as winemaking
